New in SuperSplat: Downloadable Splats, Licenses and Social Links

· 4 min read

Last month we shipped Walk Mode, Streamed LOD and Easy Upload — three huge upgrades for exploring and publishing splats. Today we're rolling out another set of features that make SuperSplat an even better home for the 3D Gaussian Splatting community.

📥 Downloadable Splats

Splat owners can now make their scenes downloadable. Open the Manage page for any of your published splats, flip the toggle and your audience can grab the files directly from the scene page. You can download the source file we host or, when you need maximum compatibility with other software, download it as a PLY. Each scene tracks its download count so you can see how popular your work is.

Why make your splats downloadable?

Because it gets your work in front of more people. Downloadable scenes show up in filtered searches, get used in blog posts, research papers and apps — and every use requires attribution back to you. The more your work is shared, the more your name travels with it. Think of it as free marketing powered by the community.

Want to find downloadable splats? Head to the Explore page to browse scenes that are available for download.

Downloaded splats can be used anywhere — in your own apps, research projects or creative tools. A great option is to load them into your PlayCanvas projects via the PlayCanvas Engine or the PlayCanvas Editor.

📜 Creative Commons Licenses

Sharing your splats is great — but you should be able to decide how they're used. You can now assign a Creative Commons license to any downloadable splat, choosing from six CC 4.0 variants:

  • CC BY — Attribution
  • CC BY-ND — Attribution, No Derivatives
  • CC BY-SA — Attribution, ShareAlike
  • CC BY-NC — Attribution, NonCommercial
  • CC BY-NC-ND — Attribution, NonCommercial, No Derivatives
  • CC BY-NC-SA — Attribution, NonCommercial, ShareAlike

The download dialog displays official CC icons alongside a ready-to-copy credit line, making it easy for anyone who downloads your work to give proper attribution. A machine-readable license link is also embedded in the published scene so tools and search engines can pick it up automatically.

Let the community know who you are. You can now add social links to your profile — Website, X, LinkedIn and YouTube — from your PlayCanvas account settings.

Your social icons will appear on your SuperSplat user page right alongside your published splats, making it easy for visitors to follow your work across the web.

💚 Free and Open Source

SuperSplat, SplatTransform and the PlayCanvas Engine are all free and open source under the MIT license. We believe the best tools for 3D on the web should be accessible to everyone.

If you're building a splat-based application, we'd love for you to build it on PlayCanvas. Check out our repos on GitHub:
